Ecotourism

🌿 Ecotourism at Our Resort

Where nature, culture, and sustainability come together

Our resort is committed to offering an unforgettable experience that celebrates the natural beauty of our surroundings while protecting it for future generations. As part of our ecotourism philosophy, we focus on low‑impact activities, environmental stewardship, and meaningful connections with local communities.

Broken River Mountain Resort is an eco-resort with a primary focus on providing an experience of natural areas that foster environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation. Considered as the platypus capital of the world, the resort is a short walk from platypus viewing platforms that are open to the public and free to access. The best times to see platypus are when they feed in the early morning or late afternoon.

Ecotourism – Tourism in a natural area that focuses on optimal resources use, leaves minimal impact on the environment, and offers interesting ways to learn about the environment with operators that use resources wisely, contribute to conserving the environment and help local communities.

🌱 Our Sustainability Commitment

  • Environmental Protection — We actively preserve native flora and fauna, maintain natural habitats, and follow strict conservation practices.

  • Energy & Water Efficiency — Our resort uses energy‑saving systems, eco‑friendly lighting, and responsible water‑management initiatives.

  • Waste Reduction — We minimise single‑use plastics, encourage recycling, and support zero‑waste principles throughout our operations.

  • Eco‑friendly Architecture — Buildings are designed to blend with the landscape, using natural materials and sustainable construction methods.

🌿 Guest Code of Conduct

Broken River Mountain Resort – Eungella, Queensland

At Broken River Mountain Resort, you’re staying in one of Australia’s most unique and fragile ecosystems. To help protect Eungella National Park and its wildlife, we ask all guests to follow this simple, respectful code of conduct during their stay.

Respect Wildlife

  • Observe platypus and other wildlife quietly and from designated viewing areas

  • Never feed animals — it harms their health and behaviour

  • Store food securely to avoid attracting wildlife

  • Use red‑light or low‑glare torches at night to minimise disturbance

Protect Waterways

  • Keep soaps, sunscreens and insect repellents out of creeks and rivers

  • Stay on viewing platforms and avoid entering the water near platypus habitat

  • Dispose of all waste properly — even biodegradable items can harm wildlife

Stay on Marked Tracks

  • Walk only on official trails and boardwalks

  • Avoid shortcuts or entering closed areas

  • Respect restoration zones and fragile rainforest soils

Leave No Trace

  • Take all rubbish with you or use wildlife‑proof bins

  • Reduce single‑use plastics during your stay

  • Keep picnic areas and cabins clean to avoid attracting animals

Be Fire‑Smart

  • Follow all fire bans and ranger instructions

  • Use only designated fire areas (if permitted)

  • Never leave a fire unattended and ensure it is fully extinguished

Minimise Noise

  • Keep voices low on trails and at viewing areas

  • Respect quiet hours at the resort

  • Avoid loud music or disruptive behaviour

Respect Cultural Heritage

  • Stay on paths to avoid disturbing culturally significant areas

  • Read and follow any cultural interpretation signage

  • Treat the landscape with care and awareness
